Scott Sherman Auto Care is Helping Families This Winter by Hosting a Coat Drive

January

Since 1952 Scott Sherman Auto Care has been earning the trust of our local Seattle communities by giving the best service possible and giving back to the community.  The number of homeless in Seattle has risen 19% since last year, with 3,800 people sleeping outside.

The frigid weather is here, and a decent winter coat is vital for day-to-day survival.  Many people lack enough warm clothing to stay protected throughout winter, and Scott Sherman Auto Care is holding a winter coat drive to benefit those in need during this time of year.

Families with children make up 35% of the Seattle area homeless population. Health experts report that even a 2-degree drop in body temperature results in reduced heart rate, loss of coordination, and confusion. Adults cannot work effectively and children find it difficult to learn. For most, a warm coat solves the problem. But, for the nearly 15% of Americans living in poverty, a warm winter coat is a budget “extra.”  As temperatures continue to fall across the state, these families are an extremely vulnerable population.  All donations will be going to Mary’s Place.

Mary’s Place is a community organization that offers love and belonging to homeless women, children, and families. Their mission is to empower homeless women, children, and families to reclaim their lives by providing shelter, nourishment, resources, healing and hope in a safe community.

The work provided by the staff at Mary’s Place helps to keep families together and collaborate with others to ensure quality services, leverage and expand service capacity across the region, and lift the voices of homeless women and families.

For more information about Mary’s Place, please visit Mary's Place.

Scott Sherman Auto Care will be collecting gently used and new winter coats in all sizes and genders through the end of February.  When you bring in a coat, Scott Sherman Auto Care will give you $20 off your service.

We need your help to give back to our community. Everyone should have a winter coat to stay warm, and with your support, we can help make this happen.
