Prepare Your Car for Winter and A Special Thank You to Our Customers

The holidays are nearly here, and we wanted to get a head start on all the craziness to say a special ‘thank you’ to our customers! You are the reason we’ve been providing quality auto service since 1952 (more than 60 years!). So, for this Thanksgiving and holiday season, we want you to know that we really appreciate your loyal patronage.

With the holiday season, you will probably need to put in some TLC to prepare your car for winter. We can handle everything needed to get your vehicle in top shape for safe, reliable transportation through the icy wet months to come. Here are just a few seasonal preparation musts to be ready for the snow and rain:

  • Check the functionality of everything. You should, of course, keep an eye on the functionality of your battery and other critical pieces on a year-round basis. However, when winter is coming, you will want to make sure that your thermostat, heater, defroster, and wiper blades are all in tip-top shape.
  • Get a level on your liquids. How’s your antifreeze level? Brake fluid? Oil? You’ll want to keep an eye on your liquid levels all throughout the year, but wintertime is the most critical, especially when it comes to antifreeze. Winterized wiper fluid is also a must, to keep your fluid from freezing in the cold and blocking your vision.
  • Measure tire tread. This is another important car maintenance step year-round, and it’s particularly important during the winter to ensure safe driving in wet or snowy conditions. Check the tread by sticking a penny into the treads of your tires, with Lincoln’s head pointed head down. If you can see down to the top of his head, you need to buy new tires, but if part or most of his head is covered by the tread, you’re just fine.
  • Buy winter-wear. Now is the time to purchase your chains and winter gear, if you haven’t already! Don’t wait until emergency strikes and you’re stuck on the side of the road without the tools you need to navigate safely. AutoSock® is a fantastic winter traction aid for tires. They’re easy to put on (much more so than chains), lightweight, and fits cars and situations where chains are not an option because of fit or road regulations. We carry them here at Scott Sherman Auto Care, too!

Drive safe this winter, and remember that we can take care of all of the above and more to prepare your car for winter. Just contact our Seattle or Shoreline locations to make an appointment for your service!
