How to Avoid a Mid-Trip Breakdown

Planning a spring break road trip or a long summer vacation on the road? Your getaway could be quickly and easily cut short without preventative maintenance on your vehicle. Scott Sherman Auto Care recommends each driver conduct a pre-trip vehicle test before hitting the open road.

The Car Care Council recommends the following is performed before heading out on that warm-weather road trip:

- Check your brakes and battery connection, ensuring it's clean and free from corrosion.

- Check fluid levels and replace dirty filters if needed.

- Check the condition of rubber hoses and belts. If they're cracked or brittle, it may be time to replace them.

- Check all tires for wear, pressure, and tread. Underinflated tires hurt fuel economy and can be dangerous to drive on.

- When you fill up the tank, check the condition of your gas cap. Is it loose, missing, or damaged? It may be time to replace it.

If anything comes up in your own assessment or are unsure about the condition of your vehicle's parts, give Scott Sherman Auto Care a call. Our trained technicians can quickly and accurately check the condition of your vehicle and identify any potential problems that could potentially ruin that fun weekend road trip before it gets started.
