5 Car Care Tips for Fall

October is the perfect time of year to prepare your car for the winter months to come and Scott Sherman Auto Care has some maintenance tips for your car or truck to keep you safe and on the road!

While you can do many of these yourself, scheduling a full-service checkup and diagnostic can ward off any other potential problems as well as ensuring your car is properly outfitted for the road this winter. Here are five car care tips for fall:

1.     Heat, Wipers, Lights!

Making sure your heaters and defrosters are working properly is a top priority – it’s dangerous to operate your car without these basic functions! But especially important in our rainy Seattle climate is ensuring your wipers are sufficient, new, and working properly to cut through the downpour. Lights are also a big concern as we start to see less and less daylight.

2.     Tires and Brakes

Reduce the risk of hydroplaning by equipping your car with new, weather-resistant tires. Check tire pressure weekly during the colder months and have your brakes checked – they’re your most important safety feature.

3.     Battery

Verifying that your connectors are clean and corrosion-free is vital during the winter, as cold weather is rough on batteries. Also, if your battery is more than three years old, it may be time to replace it.

4.     Oil and Filters

Check your oil levels and always remember to get your oil and filters changed regularly. Though temperatures rarely dip below freezing in the Pacific Northwest, it’s smart to keep your fuel level at least halfway full to prevent moisture buildup in fuel lines.

5.     System Checks and Flushes

Have the battery and alternator checked, flush and replace your antifreeze and check your exhaust system for leaks.

Schedule an appointment online at either our Seattle or Shoreline locations and make sure your car is prepared for the winter months to come!
